Rest Your Head

One of my first calls on the rescue squad reminded me of this verse: “As they were proceeding on their Journey someone said to him, “I will follow yo wherever you go. Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” Luke 9:57-58. The reason this popped into mind is because a rescue squad can get crowded. It was late at night and no place to rest. Tomorrow is October and marks Fire Prevention Month. I pray for all who serve the community, because truly there is no place to rest your head in time of need. To the Lord of many names, protect, guide, and provide rest to first responders and those, like dispatchers and others who serve the community. Help them to be at their best reflecting your compassion and comfort to those in need. May their hands and feet work swiftly and expertly as they serve in Jesus name, on the path…

Trust

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”  – Isaiah 43:2 A Lenten challenge to myself has been to study the book of Isaiah. The theme is for a person to trust in God, not in leaders, wealth, or themselves. So many of the verses speak to the world today. The book of Isaiah has many verses warning those who trust in their power, their wealth, or leaders who oppress. As I listen for the whisper, I am reminded to turn towards God. When I wrote my dissertation, I used the verse Isaiah 43:2. This verse reminds a person of the power of God. Trust. Trust in God. Difficulties come and go. The whisper is simply: trust in God. Be Ready

 If you are a gardener, you know you need to prepare. I have already looked over my gardens. Pruned my fruit trees and turned over dirt. Nutrients have gone into the earth, and I have made a list of the next steps. Preparation.  There are a lot of things we need to prepare for; that is, to be ready. Sunday is Psalm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. Luke 12:35 states, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” Even if you did nothing for Lent, this week I challenge you to reflect on your relationship with Christ.
