Contentment

“Two things I ask of you, deny them not to me before I die: Put falsehood and lying far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; provide me only with the food I need; Lest, being full, I deny you, saying, "Who is the LORD?" Or, being in want, I steal and profane the name of my God.” Proverbs 30:7-9

The scripture verses struck me today, because how often do we ask to just have enough? Being satisfied is a Christian trait. I’m not talking about struggling or being poor but knowing that you have enough. Why? Because you won’t question the Lord nor will you want more and more and more and become covetous. I’ve been thinking about the “hand you have been dealt,” syndrome. I think a good card player can do a lot with any hand. When news comes that is unwelcome, search for the silver lining. Sometimes it’s like digging for silver, but it is there. Contentment. Contentment is a blessing. Many people talk about peace. Peace is finding contentment. Lord, today help us to find contentment in all that we have. Help us to find silver linings and praise you for them. Thank you for the day, may we use it for your glory, in Jesus name on the path…

Trust

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”  – Isaiah 43:2 A Lenten challenge to myself has been to study the book of Isaiah. The theme is for a person to trust in God, not in leaders, wealth, or themselves. So many of the verses speak to the world today. The book of Isaiah has many verses warning those who trust in their power, their wealth, or leaders who oppress. As I listen for the whisper, I am reminded to turn towards God. When I wrote my dissertation, I used the verse Isaiah 43:2. This verse reminds a person of the power of God. Trust. Trust in God. Difficulties come and go. The whisper is simply: trust in God. So, on this Sunday morning, I pray that I let go of my human instinct to control and instead pray when I feel the need to control my situation; when I think I know better than God. I trust ...

Be Ready

 If you are a gardener, you know you need to prepare. I have already looked over my gardens. Pruned my fruit trees and turned over dirt. Nutrients have gone into the earth, and I have made a list of the next steps. Preparation.  There are a lot of things we need to prepare for; that is, to be ready. Sunday is Psalm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. Luke 12:35 states, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” Even if you did nothing for Lent, this week I challenge you to reflect on your relationship with Christ.
