Our Focus

Our focus can tell us where we are at in life. If we our poor and our focus is consumed with making money, we could say our passion or hearts desire is money. If we are rich and our focus is on gaining more wealth we could say our hearts desire is money. Our focus can b help us to accomplish and move our lives in certain directions. Today Matthew reminds us that our focus and hearts desire should be Christ. Matthew 19:23-24 “Jesus said to his disciples, “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” As a retired person, each day I do have a focus or direction. I can get caught up in my day, yet I weave prayer, reading/studying and service into the day so that I don’t become consumed by passions other than faith. Today we ask God to guide us, show us where we have excluded Him from our lives. We list our gratitudes and with humility turn our day over to God in Jesus name on the path…

Trust

  “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”  – Isaiah 43:2 A Lenten challenge to myself has been to study the book of Isaiah. The theme is for a person to trust in God, not in leaders, wealth, or themselves. So many of the verses speak to the world today. The book of Isaiah has many verses warning those who trust in their power, their wealth, or leaders who oppress. As I listen for the whisper, I am reminded to turn towards God. When I wrote my dissertation, I used the verse Isaiah 43:2. This verse reminds a person of the power of God. Trust. Trust in God. Difficulties come and go. The whisper is simply: trust in God. Be Ready

 If you are a gardener, you know you need to prepare. I have already looked over my gardens. Pruned my fruit trees and turned over dirt. Nutrients have gone into the earth, and I have made a list of the next steps. Preparation.  There are a lot of things we need to prepare for; that is, to be ready. Sunday is Psalm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. Luke 12:35 states, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” Even if you did nothing for Lent, this week I challenge you to reflect on your relationship with Christ.
