Shake the dust from your feet

 “Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words—go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet.” Matthew 10:14

I have used this passage many times to guide my decisions on whether to stay or go. “Not receive you or listen to your words,” are not about an ego trip. This passage is talking about whether the company you are keeping is of Christ or not. Actions, words, decisions and the direction people are heading might not be ones that are of the same virtues and values of a Christian. I would have to say that this decision to “shake the dust from your feet,” can be the hardest decision a person makes. I know for me it has been. The ripple affect can be even harder and one might feel they are caught in the after waves ready to consume them. Yet, God is there and knowing the right decision will always come to comfort and guide. Today is a good day to think about where you are at. Hopefully you are where you feel received and listened to. If not, think about shaking the dust from your feet and start traveling to new beginnings on the path…

The theme is for a person to trust in God, not in leaders, wealth, or themselves. So many of the verses speak to the world today. The book of Isaiah has many verses warning those who trust in their power, their wealth, or leaders who oppress. As I listen for the whisper, I am reminded to turn towards God. When I wrote my dissertation, I used the verse Isaiah 43:2. This verse reminds a person of the power of God. Trust. Trust in God. Difficulties come and go. The whisper is simply: trust in God. Be Ready

 If you are a gardener, you know you need to prepare. I have already looked over my gardens. Pruned my fruit trees and turned over dirt. Nutrients have gone into the earth, and I have made a list of the next steps. Preparation.  There are a lot of things we need to prepare for; that is, to be ready. Sunday is Psalm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. Luke 12:35 states, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” Even if you did nothing for Lent, this week I challenge you to reflect on your relationship with Christ.
