Stronghold

“For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat; for the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall” Isaiah 25:4

I picked the scripture verse from Isaiah today because I think it is important to know that we don’t go through life alone. Isaiah talks about the poor. When we think about the poor, we think about people who don’t have “things.” Yet, poor can be in spirit; poor in health; poor in friendships, or other ways we can be poor. In addition, think about being needy. There are times I find myself thinking about sharing something with a person who would have “loved” that, but that person isn’t around to share it with. Needy for loved ones that have gone before us. Needy in distress. Weather reporters are warning about extreme heat; but in reality, when life heats up, God will be our shade. God is the wall to which any storm can pound against. For me, Isaiah gives me comfort and helps me to shoulder moments of being poor, needy, distressed, or in need of shelter from the storm or shade from the heat. Today, know you are not alone. We all are welcome in God’s stronghold, and together we can weather anything that comes our way. Loved ones that have gone before us are in the stronghold also and continue to walk with us on the path…
