Know Him

 John 16:33 “I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world, you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” Yesterday was the first time at the beer garden this summer. Opening weekend. Even though I had water, it was about gathering with friends. As I head to work this morning, I pray for my students. There are more lessons to be learned than a grade on a paper. Courage to do the right thing, for instance. Finding peace when your grade isn’t where you wanted it. Holding yourself accountable by being honest that late assignments and rushed work were on you, not the teacher. Take courage, Jesus conquered the world, and you will find peace in knowing Jesus, his ways, and applying them to your life. Trouble is something to reflect on. What is my part, what is the outcome I want, and is there a way that this trouble can point to His glory? Today know Him and know peace. As you do your walk-about find ways to take courage, hold yourself accountable, but mostly see His presence on the path…

Trust

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”  – Isaiah 43:2 A Lenten challenge to myself has been to study the book of Isaiah. The theme is for a person to trust in God, not in leaders, wealth, or themselves. So many of the verses speak to the world today. The book of Isaiah has many verses warning those who trust in their power, their wealth, or leaders who oppress. As I listen for the whisper, I am reminded to turn towards God. When I wrote my dissertation, I used the verse Isaiah 43:2. This verse reminds a person of the power of God. Trust. Trust in God. Difficulties come and go. The whisper is simply: trust in God. So, on this Sunday morning, I pray that I let go of my human instinct to control and instead pray when I feel the need to control my situation; when I think I know better than God. I trust ...

Be Ready

 If you are a gardener, you know you need to prepare. I have already looked over my gardens. Pruned my fruit trees and turned over dirt. Nutrients have gone into the earth, and I have made a list of the next steps. Preparation.  There are a lot of things we need to prepare for; that is, to be ready. Sunday is Psalm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. Luke 12:35 states, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” Even if you did nothing for Lent, this week I challenge you to reflect on your relationship with Christ.
