Speak for your servant is listening

Samuel 1:10 “The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Speak Lord, for I am listening. Listening to God during a noisy world can be difficult. However, we must find a way to tell the Lord to speak, and we will listen. My husband and I prayed for several family members that are going thru challenging times, and we lit a candle and put it in the Mary grotto. Sometimes we need to know that we should put ourselves in the path of people to listen to. I had a chance when I was at Cardinal Stritch to go and listen to Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King Jr.’s sons. I also had a chance to go to Marquette to listen to a Muslim speaker who defined Jihad and other misunderstandings. In many ways, I realize that these too were moments with God. There are are people to which we should listen to and those we should not. Sifting through the noise is difficult. Growing up, there as this speaker who was extremely popular at the time, and she was coming to Milwaukee. My mom really wanted to see her. Yet after some prayerful consideration she realized the speaker was not someone to follow, and that she had been duped by the sensation of this speaker. My mom listened to God, but like her you have to go to God first. The path is full of voices, advertising, music, etc., and as we try to hear God’s voice we must find a quite place and push all else aside to really listen on the path….
