Beloved
“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone
who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not
know God, for God is love. In this way, the love of God was revealed to us: God
sent his only-begotten Son into the world
so that we might have life through him. In this is love: not that we have loved
God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.” 1 John
4:7:10
Today’s liturgical readings start with this reading from 1 John. First, I love how in scripture we are the beloved. Never forget that you are God’s beloved, my friends. Second, the main thread woven throughout scripture is love. Even if the earthly world does not show you love, remember that God does show you love. A great love, an unforgettable love. Before school started, my husband and I went to the dollar store as I created a board game for my Church History students. I needed some dice, game pieces, and other little things to complete the game. My husband held the door for a gentleman as he entered. He states, “kindness is not dead after all.” Later, when we were in line, he was ahead of us and paid for my stuff. Kindness. A smile, an opened door, a visit, a call …. Small gestures that go along way on the path…
