Sharing a meal
“Then he said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind. Blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous, Luke 14:12-14
One of life's joys is having family over to share a
meal. One doesn’t do so in anticipation of what they will get out of it in
return. No one does so because time together is important. In today’s gospel
reading, the author reminds us that we should share with the poor, the
crippled, the lame, and the blind. In today’s environment, it is helpful to be
reminded that we are here to care for each other. Shoulder each other's
burdens. I feel blessed when a friend shares their garden’s bounty with me, or
when I can share with others. Who are you called to share with, today on the
path…..
