In the Shadow of His Wings

 Some days we need to be reminded that we are not alone. We need to remember that we are in the “shadow of Gods wings” ; his protection. God, walks with us, as I have said many times, but I believe we can’t say it enough. My students learned about Ethos, Pathos and Logos regarding the prophets and how they got their message to their audience. More importantly, the looked at how others try to influence them. Are they using Ethos (they have credibility) or Pathos (emotions; those abandoned puppy commercials get me every time) or Logos (logic or reasoning). It is important to know how people are trying to influence you so that you can try to find what is credible or logical to influence your mind. Today I choose to remember Psalm 63:7-8 “ Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings, I cling to your; your right hand upholds me.” I use my gift of free will to make choices but know that through my faith in God, I can sift through all the rhetoric and find his will and right choices on the path…

During this time of the year, when I was little my mom would warn us that Santa’s elves were watching us through the window. Mrs. Claus was baking cookies when the sunset was brilliant. All those unimportant things mothers do for us. Mothers did not receive a manual for raising a child. They weren’t given on/ off switches. Mothers were given as a gift compassion, love, and a giving heart. I think God is a lot like a good mother. God gives comfort and is there for us. This time of year I think of Mary, a very young girl, having a baby out of wedlock. She gave birth in a manger, and watched her son die on a cross. Healthy Self

  Isaiah 38:16 “Lord, by such things people live; and my spirit finds life in them too. You restored me to health and let me live.” Our path is a winding trail. There are times we don’t realize that we need healing but then life happens and healing takes place through the grace of God. This past weekend my husband, daughter and I took a day trip to Galena. We had fun tasting wines, eating Gluten free pasta and finding excellent cheese. Mostly though, it was a time to reconnect, and reenergize, that is to heal. God created each of us with a piece of Gods created image in us. Only we can reflect that. God’s big plan for us is to be ourselves so others can know God. That requires a healthy self. Today do a self check in, what needs healing, physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually and relationally? Take time to heal so you can be the created image of God you were meant to be on the path…

Stick Closer than a Brother

  “ One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24 Relationships can be tricky. My students are finishing their Old Testament course with the books of Wisdom. The quote from Proverbs reminds me of high school and how important friendships built there are. People seem to come and go in our lives. Relatives are there, but sometimes we seem closer to friends than family members. Advent is a great time to reach out and remind family and close friends how important they are. Relationships require time and communication. Send a Christmas card, make a phone call, but make sure you reach out and “stick closer than a brother” on the path…
