Joyful in Hope

 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

These three things: joyful, patient, faithful…hope, affliction, and prayer. It sounds easy to be joyful in hope, yet there are times when hope is hard to find. Hope is the patience in affliction, believing that this too shall pass as God walks you, cradles you at times and carries you other times. Hope is being faithful in prayer, believing that your prayer is being heard. Prayer is a conversation with the one we love, so be faithful by talking to God and it is in the conversation you will find hope. If you have these, you have joy on the path…

I went yesterday and was treated for bronchitis and a sinus infection.   I have been praying that all of you are well and begin 2026 with hope. What will your task be in 2026?

“ and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,” Luke 8:2 Mary Magdalene was sent by Jesus to tell the followers he had risen. Yet I think that one of the important reasons that Mary could be given this task was that she modeled the power of Christ through his cure of her seven demons. The seven demons were overcome through Jesus. These are the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, wrath, lust, envy, gluttony, and sloth. The deadly sins are replaced with the seven heavenly virtues: prudence, justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope, and charity. As we come to New Year's and think about how we want to change the path we are on, let's make 2026 a great year. Think about replacing one of the demons that might plague you. Christ is there to help each of us with something we need to work on and replace. Who knows the tasks we will be given when we are cured?  Pray on it, reflect, then ask Christ to cure ...
