Life Happens
“If you will give these instructions to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching you have followed. Avoid profane and silly myths. Train yourself for devotion, for, while physical training is of limited value, devotion is valuable in every respect, since it holds a promise of life both for the present and for the future. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance. For this we toil and struggle, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the savior of all, especially of those who believe. 1 Timothy 4:6-10
Life
Happens. Today’s reading reminds us that life will happen. We all toil and
struggle, yet when we hope in the living God, we can find small glimpses of
hope. This summer, I have not done a lot of gardening. At last, I had to resign
myself to the fact that my strawberry patch, which had been great last year,
had died out. I did get some strawberries for which I am thankful, but weeds
and poor soil got the best of the plants. Gardening is a lot like life. You
need to know when to move on and reevaluate your plans. I realized my interests
have changed. Keeping a smaller garden, visiting farmers' markets, and
exploring strawberry patches help me move forward and discover new
possibilities on the path…
