Cleaning House

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Cleaning House. This summer, we have had a renovation project. You know how it goes. You do something in one room, then you have stuff to go through and decide if you are going to keep it or not. The last cleaning project I had to do was part of the basement. Thirty years of totes to go through, including my sewing area. I am happy to say that I finished and had time for a date night with my husband. Jesus tells us to come to him because he knows a secret in life. Life is better when two or more people work together. Today, think about those people who help you shoulder burdens, starting with Christ, and thank God for them. Think about how Jesus’ yoke is easy, and his burdens are light, and know that finding those who walk, run, and live with you are part of Christ with you on the path…

What will your task be in 2026?

“ and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,” Luke 8:2 Mary Magdalene was sent by Jesus to tell the followers he had risen. Yet I think that one of the important reasons that Mary could be given this task was that she modeled the power of Christ through his cure of her seven demons. The seven demons were overcome through Jesus. These are the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, wrath, lust, envy, gluttony, and sloth. The deadly sins are replaced with the seven heavenly virtues: prudence, justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope, and charity. As we come to New Year's and think about how we want to change the path we are on, let's make 2026 a great year. Think about replacing one of the demons that might plague you. Christ is there to help each of us with something we need to work on and replace. Who knows the tasks we will be given when we are cured?  Pray on it, reflect, then ask Christ to cure ...
