An
Angel in the Operating Room
Working
at a Catholic school, you meet all sorts of people. One special person was the
school secretary. The secretary was loved by everyone as she was positive and
cared for all. She took the time to remember everyone’s birthdays, and if
students didn’t have a meal, she would help to make sure they had a meal. This
special lady gave joy to all who encountered her.
The
woman was cheerful even though her husband had heart issues. There came a point
when her husband needed a heart transplant. His name was put on the prayer list,
and the school prayed for the family. The woman came to work every day because
her husband could not work. Even though she had her own difficulties she
remained positive. Time went on, and prayers continued to be prayed. The schoolchildren would not forget Mrs. Pfeiffer and her husband.
The call came that a
matching heart was available. In the middle of the night, Mr. Pfeiffer received
his heart transplant. Mrs. Pfeiffer was out for a while taking care of her
husband. I didn’t know that the transplant was taking place until the morning
after it had happened. However, that night I had a dream. I dreamed of Mr.
Pfeiffer lying in the operating room. An angel was hovering over the
operating table. Doctors and support staff surrounded the operating table. I
watched as instruments were handed to the doctor. At the right moment, the
angel handed the heart to the surgeon who placed it in Mr. Pfeiffer. The dream
was so surreal it was unnerving.
Mrs. Pfeiffer was out for
a while, and I found out that her husband had the transplant as I had the dream.
In the weeks that followed, I was still disturbed by the dream. I prayed and
asked God the reason for the dream. The day Mrs. Pfeiffer came back to work. I
received my answer. I was supposed to tell her about the dream.
I was very uncomfortable
telling her about the dream. It was one of the moments I was afraid she’d think
I was crazy. I waited until no one was around and told her what I had seen. I
personally thought she would laugh at me or worse think I was different. To my
surprise, she smiled. Then told me that she and her kids knew they had a
guardian angel. There was a nurse who sat with them the whole time and had
been around before, during, and after the operation. One of her children had
followed her out to the parking lot to thank her, but she had disappeared. They
asked the hospital staff about her as they wanted the nurse to know how much
her presence had meant to them. The hospital staff told them no one by name they
gave for the nurse, worked there. The family knew they had a guardian angel and
were not surprised that the angel had been in the operating room.
