Deborah

Today, I have been thinking about Deborah from scripture. We find Deborah in the book of Judges. She was prophet, wife and judge. If you don’t know much about her, read Judges 4 & 5. I find it helpful to know that even in scripture there is a woman who held different roles. Growing up the expectations for me was to keep house and have children. My path, however, lead me down different paths. I did have the joy of staying at home and raising my children. This will always be my favorite time in my life.

I find that Deborah provides me with a role model. She tells me that one is called not because of gender, but because of God. If you would like to read more here is a good website: https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/people-cultures-in-the-bible/people-in-the-bible/deborah-in-the-bible/. I was thinking about Deborah because we are given opportunities and sometimes we must forge a path. I have decided to reboot. That is, go over everything I have done this far to find out where I need to go. Deborah provides me with a couple of insights as I discern. First, gender did not stop her in her roles. Second, she was willing to go the extra mile. Third, she was able to use her skills and faith to influence others and deepen her relationship with God. Those three things I would wish for myself.

Looking at others to see what is something we can inspire to is something worthy of reflection on the path….
